Rounds out the series well. 3.5/5 starsAs always, amanada lovelace’s poetry brings vivid imagery to the page, and continues to tell a similar story to Princess and Witch. Some of the major themes were harder to relate to than others because of my experiences in life, but that can be found in most poetry. This book is about staying strong and healing after trauma; that is okay to let yourself feel the pain and grow through it. Unlike the other two books in this collection, didn’t develop a strong connection to many of the poems. I did like that she had other authors cameo in Mermaid, but I just wished that they had been better spread out. It seemed like 85% of the cameo poems were in the last of the four sections, which threw off the flow of the writing for me. Overall, I think this is a good conclusion to a collection that has helped so many people acknowledge their trauma and heal from it.A Beautiful Conclusion Amanda Lovelace is my favorite author/poet. I was over the moon when I heard she was writing another book, and that it would be about MERMAIDS! Such a unique fantastical creature! Even so, I was worried I wouldn’t love it like I do her others, with an unhealthy intensity! However, my fears were unfounded because each poem hit me like a freight train. This is the most raw, personal poetry we’ve seen from her, and it takes guts to publish something like this where everyone can see it. This is more princess than witch, but it’s less anger and more plain truth. I would definitely recommend buying any of her books, but this was a beautiful conclusion to her Women Are Some Kind of Magic series!a beautiful conclusion This was beautuful and powerful and magical. Everything Amanda Lovelace is. The Women Are Some Kind of Magic series has been something I looked forward to since I read The Princess Saves Herself In This One the first time and Lovelace did not disappoint. I enjoyed everything about this beautiful and much needed collection, even the poems written by other talented people. It was marvelous and I shall read the whole series again someday.
